Well, it seems like that sex-on-wheels advert has done its job. Fisker’s development of the oh so desirable Karma PHEV and its lower-cost sibling, now known as Project Nina (inspired by Christopher Columbus’ escape from the Old World, no less), has been given a significant boost by the US government. Henrik Fisker himself has been quoted as saying that once the conditional loan is in, “it wouldn’t take long to get the lower-cost plug-in hybrid on the road.” If the company carries over the aggressive styling from the luxury model, it might have a real winner on its hands, though — we know — it’s got to be cheap enough first. While waiting for that $528.7 million to work its magic, you can gawk at the solar paneled roof on the Karma, to be found after the break.

Sure, the company’s Tokyo Game Show keynote was a bit of a bore, but in a second press conference for Japanese media, Sony did what it could to make up for it by revealing Biohazard 5: Alternative Edition, the first PS3 title we’ve heard of to support the new motion controllers — and better still, it’s due out Spring 2010. Also confirmed is the existence of 13 first-party titles with motion support coming at some point next year, including Pain, EyePet and Flower. Both Biohazard 5 (known in the US as Resident Evil 5) and a LittleBigPlanet tech demo were shown on stage, and pics from the announcement are being uploaded now, so stay tuned!

Update: Some new details of the LittleBigPlanet motion control demo from our friend Ittousai of Engadget Japan. In the presentation, one player was playing the normal way via DualShock while a second person was “assisting” by means of the motion control.

Futur Tablet PC tactile Microsoft : Courier

We know, we know — you’re probably still waiting for the Apple tablet that’ll never come, but how’s about a prototype alternative from said outfit’s arch enemy to tide you over? Gizmodo has just let slip details surrounding what was previously a top secret project deep within the lairs of Redmond, but given that this is more of an advanced proof of concept than anything else, we’re doing our best to curb our inner enthusiasm about a near-term release. We’re told that the folding device could eventually ship with dual 7-inch displays, both of which support multitouch gestures and can also be controlled via a stylus. It should too boast a camera and possibly an inductive charging pad on the rear, though we can’t help but be a wee bit frightened by hearing that the user interface is “complex.” Essentially, the Courier is a touch-friendly, two-screen tablet that can’t let go of the tried-and-true pen input method, and your guess is as good as ours when it comes to purpose. Though, something tells us ASUS might just have the answer. Video’s after the break.

You’ve always got your cellphone handy, but it’s not really ready to take a close-up shot. With parts recycled from an old DVD player or drive, you can craft a makeshift macro lens for your tiny camera.

It turns out that the little lens inside DVD players is just about the perfect size and magnification to turn the tiny lenses of cellphone cameras into a macro tool. All you need is a drive to hack apart, a piece of stiff posterboard or plastic to mount the lens in, and a little bit of poster tack or painter’s tape to hold the lens mount in place over your cellphone’s camera lens.

The result? Your cameraphone now has a significantly more intense gaze. Check out the photo to the right for an example of what the dvd-macro-lens is capable of and visit the link below for additional pictures and information.

You know, 15 years ago, me and my friends had a a dream. That Lucasarts would get the original movie cast to provide the voices for a Star Wars adventure game. It never happened, but this comes pretty damn close.

This is Han Solo Adventures, a fan-made, freeware (it’s not a commercial venture, Lucasarts lawyers!) project by Stacy Davidson. It’s as close to my dream as we’re ever going to get; a Star Wars adventure game based on an earlier version of the SCUMM engine, complete with that timeless, early-90’s Lucasarts look.

The story is described as “interactive fan fiction”, Davidson saying to expect something “fairly original, loosely based on available background information on Han and his early exploits”.

There’s a couple of screenshots here to ogle, as well as a trailer, though Davidson says the finished game won’t feature a vocal track, only text, as this clip was made for a different project.
