You know that Condé Nast tablet / digital magazine demo we saw recently (non-ironically paging through a copy of Wired)? Well now Time Inc. has gotten in on the same game, showing off its version of a digimag running a touch-friendly issue of Sports Illustrated. The company not only buzzed everyone with the charming walkthough video — a floating hand paging through SI on a sleek, black tablet (embedded after the break) — but also had a live, functioning variation of the product up and running on a touchscreen HP laptop. The gist of the project seems to be that the publisher will be able to offer this digitized version of its magazines in some sort of agnostic format, one that would be accessible to PCs and phantom Apple tablets alike. Peter Kafka over at All Things D says that he had a chance to play with the demo and it was, “quite a bit of fun.” While it’s clear that both Time and Condé Nast are taking parallel routes to online publishing (the former is purely in concept mode, the latter is working with Adobe on digital versions of its titles as we speak), one thing is painfully clear: both companies have shockingly similar ideas about what the future of magazine publishing looks like. We hope Apple has been informed.

Voici une petite carte des débits et des couts des connexions Internet dans le monde. On peut voir que la France s’en sort très bien en étant le 5ème pays (loin derrière le japon certes mais le débit moyen là bas a énormément d’avance).

Google à dévoilé son nouveau service de recherche visuelle pour mobiles nommé Google Goggles. Celui-ci permet de prendre une photo via son mobile afin d’effectuer directement une recherche sur le contenu de celle-ci qui sera analyse par Google sans avoir à entré du texte. Cela ne fonctionne pour l’instant que sur Mobile Android mais devrait bientôt s’étendre et semble assez prometteur.

Après son application de recherche vocale, Google vient de dévoiler son application Google Goggles, une application de recherche visuelle, disponible sur les mobiles Android 1.6 (vie l’Android Market) ! À partir d’une photo prise sur le vif, Google Goggles peut reconnaitre un monument, une peinture, le logo d’une entreprise, un objet ou encore un livre et vous retourner les résultats de la recherche Google adéquate. L’application peut identifier un monument comme un commerce de proximité, en s’appuyant sur la géolocalisation de l’utilisateur, son orientation et les milliers de clichés de Street View. Google Goggles peut également convertir une carte de visite par reconnaissance de texte ! Ils sont forts chez Google.

Sony a fait la démo il y a quelques jours d’un prototype d’écran 3D à 360° qui permet de voir une véritable image en 3D en tournant autour de l’appareil. Pour l’instant la résolution est assez faible et cela reste un prototype mais l’hologramme de R2D2 semble s’approcher et le résultat de cet écran Sony stéréoscopique est assez impressionnant.

Sony is demoing a 3D display at the Digital Contents Expo that takes place in Tokyo right now, and today I went there and made a few pictures and shot a video of the device, too. Two of the 360 stereoscopic displays were displayed to the general public, and the tech is pretty impressive.
The specs aren’t that great (96×128 resolution, 24-bit color palette), but this is just a first prototype.
Here’s how Sony thinks we one day could use the display:

Voici une voiture hybride dont le design est un peu travaillé que ce qu’on a pu voir auparavant. Nommées Karma et Nina les deux voitures seront produites par Fisker qui a obtenu un prêt de plus de 500 millions de dollars de l’état américain.

Well, it seems like that sex-on-wheels advert has done its job. Fisker’s development of the oh so desirable Karma PHEV and its lower-cost sibling, now known as Project Nina (inspired by Christopher Columbus’ escape from the Old World, no less), has been given a significant boost by the US government. Henrik Fisker himself has been quoted as saying that once the conditional loan is in, “it wouldn’t take long to get the lower-cost plug-in hybrid on the road.” If the company carries over the aggressive styling from the luxury model, it might have a real winner on its hands, though — we know — it’s got to be cheap enough first. While waiting for that $528.7 million to work its magic, you can gawk at the solar paneled roof on the Karma, to be found after the break.

Sony a présenté au salon TGS (Tokyo Game Show) la version définitive de son périphérique pour PS3 avec motion control. Celui-ci associé à la caméra Eye Toy permettra d’obtenir un système de manette avec gestion des mouvements dans l’espace visiblement beaucoup plus précis que la Wiimote de Nintendo. Les 13 jeux annoncés pour l’instant sont soit des jeux assez “casual” soit des patchs pour des jeux existants, reste à voir si cette manette sera bien utilisée sur d’autres titres plus originaux.

Sure, the company’s Tokyo Game Show keynote was a bit of a bore, but in a second press conference for Japanese media, Sony did what it could to make up for it by revealing Biohazard 5: Alternative Edition, the first PS3 title we’ve heard of to support the new motion controllers — and better still, it’s due out Spring 2010. Also confirmed is the existence of 13 first-party titles with motion support coming at some point next year, including Pain, EyePet and Flower. Both Biohazard 5 (known in the US as Resident Evil 5) and a LittleBigPlanet tech demo were shown on stage, and pics from the announcement are being uploaded now, so stay tuned!
Update: Some new details of the LittleBigPlanet motion control demo from our friend Ittousai of Engadget Japan. In the presentation, one player was playing the normal way via DualShock while a second person was “assisting” by means of the motion control.
